Sewing Machine Maintenance

  • Southeastern Quilt & Textile Museum 306 Bradley Street Carrollton, GA, 30117 United States (map)

This class is designed for portable sewing machines. Both vintage and modern machines are welcomed. In this class, we will perform a basic maintenance on our sewing machines and learn troubleshooting techniques for common problems. Routine maintenance keeps your sewing machine in good working order and lessens trips to the repair shop.

What to bring to class:

  • Sewing machine with foot pedal and power cord

  • All purpose presser foot

  • Extra bobbins

  • Any screwdrivers that may have come with your machine

  • Sewing machine manual

  • Thread

  • Small scissors

  • Scrap fabric to test sew on

  • Old towel – especially if bringing a vintage machine

  • Missing your manual? No worries. We can help you locate an electronic copy.

Students must pre-register. A $5 supply fee is included in the class cost and covers a new cleaning brush, cleaning swabs and 80/12 Microtex needle for each participant. Oil, grease and microfiber towels will be available for student use during class.
